Have ridden to Nant Yr Arian from Machynlleth before but never ridden the trails. Had to go to Aberystwyth for some work so would have been rude not to.
I have to say I loved it, great scenery and great trials. Its a trail of 2 halves, some great man made single track and some good old XC slog in the some of the most amazing countryside in the UK. Possibly helped by the dry weather and hard ground, if not a bit icy in places.
Right from the off, a quick climb and you are already on some great twisty singletrack, a great grin enducing start to any ride. The middle part of the route is mostly double track interspersed with longish road sections to link it all up. Maybe a bit too much road for my liking but the quality of the trail otherwise more than makes up for it.
The singletrack re starts just at the right time and is as good as i have ridden, very flowy and you can really crack on. The last climb (the leg breaker i think its called?) is a long one, and it doesn’t stop when you think its going to. I love a good hard climb, and this does not disappoint. As a reward for your effort the final decent drops you through the trees back to the visitor centre. With a big grin, a satisfying ride.
